and there’s no end to what you can learn.”
Here's how we have approached a challenge that isn't a business one, but one close to our hearts. Children with autism are often not given every possible opportunity to develop their particular potential.
Which is why Lighthouse School in Leeds exists. It is a school specifically and solely for young people aged between 11 and 19 with an autistic spectrum condition (ASC) or a related communication disorder.
It is Yorkshire's first special free school and provides a very personalised and broad education not just covering the National Curriculum but also vocational subjects as well as life, social and communication skills.
The aim is not simply to teach but to provide these young people with the tools they need by which to learn and succeed and thrive in life.
The Challenge: Answer in Garden Makeover.
Following on from sponsoring Channel 4's Autistic Gardener, Alan Gardner, to create designs for the grounds of the Lighthouse School, we here at Answer will be taking on our most challenging project to-date in re-developing the grounds based on the new designs.
Alan visited the school with Answer’s own expert gardener Mike Blamires (well he mentioned having previously grown sunflowers and marrows!) to meet with students and gain their input to the design. Armed with this highly creative input Alan is bringing together designs for a sensory garden, an amphitheatre for outdoor classes, a cultivating area and much more!
We are certain it will look good on the plans but developing it promises to make for a busy summer for the Answer team.
In what has certainly been a challenge for the Answer team, here you get a feel for the scale of the garden makeover project undertaken by the team in this timelapse video of the big dig!
It also happens to be a great way to see whom has the most relaxed approach to gardening.
The work continues - Answer Digital will be back at the Lighthouse School in early 2017 to begin planting. We will post more photos and videos here as the garden evolves.
